What’s the Right Adderall Dosage?

in Adhd

Adderall is a medication made for treating the patients suffering from the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This disorder can be equally found in adults and children. The medication helps in overcoming the ADHD symptoms. It is made from four amphetamine compounds which make it more effective than other medications that are to be given once a day.

The Adderall Dosage which will be given by your health care provider will vary as per your age, current medical condition and the medications that you are already taking. Generally the Adderall Dosage should not be more than 40 mg per day. Mostly children are prescribed a single dose in a day so that they might get through the whole day in school and finish homework as well. However, the dosage for adults lies between 5 mg and 60 mg in a day. The first dose is to be taken first thing in the morning.

Factors on which the dosage may differ:

  • Age of the individual
  • ADHD and narcolepsy medications that have already been tried
  • The medical conditions of the individual

Adjusting your dosage yourself is strongly prohibited as it can turn out to be dangerous. Take the dose according to the instructions of your doctor.

Adderall Dosage for children having 3-5 years of age should start from 2.5 mg daily. This is the dosage for ADHD. If needed, the dose can be increased by 2.5 mg each week but as per the instructions of the doctor. Children starting from the age of 6 years and beyond should be given 5 mg twice a day in the start. Again the dose can be increased by 5 mg each week as per the need. If you need to take the dose twice or thrice a day then make sure it is taken after the gap of at least 4 to 6 hours.

Adults with narcolepsy are required to take 5 to 60 mg Adderall each day and this dose should be divided into 3 doses after the gap of 4-6 hours. Children with narcolepsy should take 5 mg per day and it can be again increased by 5 mg each week if needed. This was for children between 6 to 12 years of age. Children with narcolepsy beyond 12 years are required to take 10 mg per day.

Important information:

  • Don’t take double dose. Also do not take the dose late at night as you would be facing sleeping problems.
